Overview[ | ]

A Hunting Rifle is a medium to long range bolt action firearm which can be found throughout the world in 7 Days to Die. It is an uncommon weapon and can also be crafted using the correct Gun Parts. This weapon requires the 7.62mm Bullet and only holds one cartridge at a time. Its durability will last for 150 shots. It will reload automatically if the player is carrying the correct Ammunition or it can be done manually at any time using the reload key (default key R ).

Combat[ | ]

During combat, a Hunting Rifle is a very powerful long range weapon. At short range, however, the player may have trouble because it must be reloaded for each shot and therefore has a slow rate of fire. A Hunting Rifle will kill most Zombies with one head shot. Due to its slow firing rate and relatively uncommon ammunition (7.62mm), the Hunting Rifle should be used conservatively and with care in the hands of beginning players.

Gun Parts[]

Each part of the Hunting Rifle can supply a different attribute. It is unknown if the value supplied is based on the quality of the component or the overall quality of the Hunting Rifle. Hunting Rifle does not really have a durability, each of its component parts have a durability and when any of them fail then the whole Hunting Rifle fails.

The values will be adjusted by the players Action Skill Group level and other skills and perks.

  1. Accuracy has changed in Alpha 16, it is unsure how this now affects the accuracy of the weapon

With some weapons the amount of damage take to the weapon itself can change with the quality of the weapon. It is also possible for the damage taken to go up, simulating that it is a finely tuned weapon that can be put out of action quicker. For a Hunting Rifle the following describes the minimum and maximum number of uses of the weapon, based on the quality, before it will need to be repaired.

Uses:
Minimum Quality (1): 2500 / 10 = 250
Almost Maximum (599): 6244 / 14 = 446
Maximum Quality (600): 6250 / 15 = 416

Crafting Recipe[ | ]

Just click on any part and click Assemble. From there the player will be able to add and remove items from the weapon. The player must have read the schematic first to assemble the Hunting Rifle.

Repair[ | ]

The Condition of a Hunting Rifle deteriorates with each use until eventually it will stop working and will need to be repaired. This can be done using a Repair Kit.

Other Uses[ | ]

Dismantling[ | ]

A Hunting Rifle can be dismantled by placing it into the output slot of the crafting grid. This will break the weapon down into its component state, and display the parts in the main crafting grid. The player can then remove the parts and place them into their bag or tool belt.

Players who have read the appropriate Recipe Book can also use this method to upgrade gun parts in the weapon to a higher quality. To do so, remove the desired gun part from the crafting grid, and replace it with a similar gun part of higher quality. Note that this action must be done in a specific order. You cannot first drag the NEW gun part onto the crafting grid and "swap" it with the OLD one. You must first drag the OLD gun part off of the crafting grid and replace or swap it with the NEW one.

Any player can place the weapon in the output slot, observe the weapon's component gun parts, and remove it from the output slot again without dismantling it. This action will also automatically unload the bullets into their bag or tool belt.

However, although any player can dismantle a weapon, only players who have read the appropriate Recipe Book can reassemble or upgrade it. Players without this knowledge should never remove any gun parts from the crafting grid, unless they intend to permanently dismantle the weapon.

Forging[ | ]

The player can place a Hunting Rifle into a Forge and it will be melted down into iron. Each Hunting Rifle will produce 6.0 lbs of iron.

Scrapping[ | ]

Scrapping a Hunting Rifle will provide 12 units of scrap iron.

Notes[ | ]

  • A Hunting Rifle, like all weapons, can destroy blocks and structures.
  • The Hunting Rifle appears to be based on the Remington Model 700, as the exact name is imprinted on the receiver.
