Comparing the AK to the SMG[]

I added the AK VS SMG bit to the combat section because I feel like it is factual, accurate, and useful information about the new AK but the inclusion of the comparison has drawn some criticism so I thought I'd put the issue here so more people can weigh-in.

One of the things that was said was there is a 6% difference between the two rifles, which I do note in the article. But it is significant that the damage difference is also 6%, ergo at 100% quality (I assume) they will do comparatively equal damage.

I don't say in the article that they are exactly the same but I think their similarities are worth noting, given the large disparity in per-bullet costs.

It's also been mentioned that player's rifle skill level affects the damage and while that is true, the base damage is what the rifle lists and the player's skill is a modifier of that. Put another way; if Player X has both of the rifles discussed in the article, his modifier would be consistent when firing each rifle, therefore the player's skill has no bearing on the comparison, because it modifies the damage of both rifles the same.

Help solve the dispute. Is the comparison useful, neutral, and correct or should it be removed?

The more I work it over in my head, the more I think The Pimps modeled the AK from the SMG with a few, minor adjustments, like having the AK consume 7.62 rounds while doing 10mm damage. Looking at the images again, even the accuracy is 6% different—so it follows that if the SMG durability is increased by 6%, to be equal to the AK, the entity damage and accuracy would also be raised 6% and become equal.

Update March 30, 2016[]

I've undone recent changes to the analysis section by an anonymous editor for the following reasons:

  1. The editor stated "The SMG has a better fire rate" which isn't true. The two weapons have identical fire rates according to the XML files. The AK does have a faster reload time, but this was not taken into consideration for this analysis
  2. The rewording completely changed the fact that the analysis was specific to the weapons in the images.
  3. There is no bias towards either weapon. The statistics used to base the conclusion are relevant and indisputable: the major difference in damage between the two compared weapons (6%) is directly correlated to the difference in quality (6%).
  4. The editor stated the SMG "falls short in almost every other aspect" which also isn't true, as evident in the images. When adjusting for the difference in quality, the two weapons are comparable enough that per-round-cost becomes a significant differentiator.
