Overview[edit | edit source]

The Shotgun is a pump-action firearm that can be found or crafted in 7 Days to Die. It can be looted from Infected Police Officers, Feral Zombies, Munitions Boxes, Wall Safes, Gun Safes, Shotgun Messiah Crates and Supply Crates. It can also be crafted (assembled and disassembled) after reading the Pump Shotgun Schematic. The Shotgun can use either Shotgun Shells or Shotgun Slugs as Ammunition and will hold eight cartridges. It will reload automatically or manually using the reload key (default key 'R'). A Shotgun has a Durability that is shown by the number at the bottom of the icon box and by Quality color.

Unlocking[edit | edit source]

Combat[edit | edit source]

In close combat situations, the Shotgun is tremendously powerful and deals a high amount of damage to enemies. It has a slight spread of the shot which allows the Weapon to hit multiple targets at once. Because of the longer barrel and therefore smaller shot spread, the Shotgun remains effective on medium range targets.

There is a 80% chance the shotgun will inflict a critical hit on a target (Shotgun Wound buff), which reduces the target's movement speed by 60%. This effect is extendable.

Shotgun Shells[edit | edit source]

When using Shotgun Shells the damage is up to 8 times these values, as there are 8 pellets which may hit different targets or none:

Gun Parts[edit source]

Each part of the Shotgun can supply a different attribute. It is unknown if the value supplied is based on the quality of the component or the overall quality of the Shotgun. Shotgun does not really have a durability, each of its component parts have a durability and when any of them fail then the whole Shotgun fails.

The values will be adjusted by the players Action Skill Group level and other skills and perks.

  1. Accuracy has changed in Alpha 16, it is unsure how this now affects the accuracy of the weapon

With some weapons the amount of damage take to the weapon itself can change with the quality of the weapon. It is also possible for the damage taken to go up, simulating that it is a finely tuned weapon that can be put out of action quicker. For a Shotgun the following describes the minimum and maximum number of uses of the weapon, based on the quality, before it will need to be repaired.

Uses:
Minimum Quality (1): 800 / 9 = 88
Maximum Quality (600): 3600 / 9 = 400

Shotgun Slugs[edit | edit source]

When using Shotgun Slugs:

Each part of the Shotgun can supply a different attribute. It is unknown if the value supplied is based on the quality of the component or the overall quality of the Shotgun. Shotgun does not really have a durability, each of its component parts have a durability and when any of them fail then the whole Shotgun fails.

The values will be adjusted by the players Action Skill Group level and other skills and perks.

Crafting[edit | edit source]

To craft a Shotgun just click on a shotgun part and click Assemble. Then the player can install and remove parts to make the Shotgun.

Repair[edit | edit source]

The condition of a Shotgun deteriorates with each use until eventually it will stop working and will need to be repaired. This can be done using a Repair Kit. Each Repair Kit restores a percentage of Durability.

Other Uses[edit | edit source]

Shotgun Turret[edit | edit source]

The Shotgun and its constituent parts may be used to craft the new Shotgun Turret, as of A16.

Assembled[edit | edit source]

A Shotgun can be Assembled by placing clicking on any pump shotgun part and clicking Assemble. This will break the weapon down into its component state, and display the parts in the main crafting window. The player can then remove the parts and place them into their bag or tool belt.

Players who have read the appropriate Recipe Book can also use this method to upgrade gun parts in the weapon to a higher quality. To do so, remove the desired gun part from the Assemble window, and replace it with a similar gun part of higher quality. Note that this action must be done in a specific order. You cannot first drag the NEW gun part onto the Assemble window and "swap" it with the OLD one. You must first drag the OLD gun part off of the Assemble window and replace or swap it with the NEW one.

However, only players who have read the appropriate Recipe Book can Assemble or upgrade it.

Forging[edit | edit source]

The player can place a Shotgun into a Forge and it will be melted down into iron. Each Shotgun will produce some Scrap Iron.

Scrapping[edit | edit source]

A Shotgun can be scrapped by clicking on Shotgun and clicking "Scrap" .

Notes[edit | edit source]

  • The Shotgun, like all weapons, can destroy blocks and structures.
  • It has a smaller shot spread than the Sawed-off Shotgun.
  • If the player changes the used slot while reloading, it cancels the reloading process, ammo is consumed at the beginning of the reload animation however ammo will get returned to the slot upon cancellation so that ammo is not wasted.
  • The player can reload the weapon even though it is no longer usable, rendering all ammo in its magazine useless until it has been repaired.
  • During the end of the reload after the sound it may take 1-2 seconds until it is ready for use.
  • The Shotgun's reload animation only shows two shells being reloaded, despite the weapon's capacity of 8 shells.
