Overview[ | ]
The Pump Shotgun is a pump-action firearm that can be found or crafted in 7 Days to Die. It can be looted and crafted . The Shotgun can use either Shotgun Shells or Shotgun Slugs as Ammunition. It will reload automatically or manually using the reload key (default key 'R').
Combat[ | ]
In close combat situations, the Pump Shotgun is tremendously powerful and deals a high amount of damage to enemies. It has a slight spread of the shot which allows the Weapon to hit multiple targets at once; a shotgun choke may be attached to tighten the buckshot spread, reducing spray but concentrating the damage per shell. Alternatively, a sawed-off shotgun barrel may be used instead to achieve the opposite effect, increasing spray to hit more targets; the duck bill attachment changes the spread to a more horizontal pattern. The damage is calculated if all the 8 pellets hit.
A major drawback for the shotgun is the low ammo capacity, particularly due to its use for close range combat. Players should be mindful of the remaining ammo in the tube, as while the shotgun is powerful, players can be caught off-guard while clearing buildings and tight spaces. As well, using buckshot to hunt animals may damage the carcass, diminishing the amount of resources harvested from the animal.
Players that intend to use Shotguns as their primary weapon of choice should invest their skill points in the Strength attribute and upgrade the Boomstick perk. As well, the Shotgun Messiah books will also benefit shotgun users.

The recipe above contains the Resources needed to craft the Pump Shotgun for each level of the Pump Shotgun Schematic Perk.
A higher level in the associated perk will decrease the crafting cost, saving resources.
The cost of crafting increases with each quality level that the player is able to craft up to a maximum of 3x of the Level 1 cost (displayed above). The recipe can only be learned from a schematic. As well, the max level of a craftable shotgun is level 5; level 6 shotguns must be found in loot, or purchased from traders.
Repair[ | ]
The condition of a Pump Shotgun deteriorates with each use until eventually it will stop working and will need to be repaired. This can be done using a Repair Kit. A single repair kit is enough to restore the weapon to full durability.
Scrapping[ | ]
A Pump Shotgun can be scrapped by clicking on Pump Shotgun and clicking "Scrap", which yields Shotgun Parts as well as any ammo in the weapon.
Modding[ | ]
To mod a Pump Shotgun just click on the shotgun and then click Modify. Then the player can install and remove mods for the Pump Shotgun.
- Shotgun Choke
- Shotgun Duckbill
- Shotgun Sawed-Off Barrel
- Retracting Stock
- Fore Grip
- Muzzle Brake
- Barrel Extender
- Silencer
- Weapon Flashlight
- Laser Sight
Shotgun Auto Turret[ | ]
The Shotgun is not required to craft shotgun turrets, saving the player the time, effort, and/or resources of acquiring another Shotgun.
Notes[ | ]
- The Pump Shotgun, like all weapons, can destroy blocks and structures.
- It has a smaller shot spread than the Shotgun Sawed-Off barrel mod.
- If the player changes the used slot while reloading, it cancels the reloading process, ammo is consumed at the beginning of the reload animation however ammo will get returned to the slot upon cancellation so that ammo is not wasted.
- The player can reload the weapon even though it is no longer usable, rendering all ammo in its magazine useless until it has been repaired.
- During the end of the reload after the sound it may take 1-2 seconds until it is ready for use.
- The Shotgun's reload animation only shows two shells being reloaded, despite the weapon's capacity of ~8 shells.
