Description[edit | edit source]

Oil Shale can only be found by Mining in the Desert biome. It has a purple hue and is somewhat shiny on higher graphic settings, with a brushed appearance (see images below). Oil Shale is found in the Desert by digging down at about 20 blocks, where the stone layer begins. It is in the stone layer under the desert just like other ores. It can also very commonly be found in the caves in the desert and usually in extremely large quantities so make sure that if you are mining it that you have plenty of free inventory space. Each time you successfully mine an Oil Shale, you receive 100 Oil Shale. This is more compared to the usual 40 units of each other mineral you get by mining them. Prior to A16, Cooking Oil Shale on the campfire was one of the easiest ways to get your science skill up.

Usage[edit | edit source]

Recipes

The following recipes require a Oil Shale: (NOTE: Times are based on a level one skill and the material that an object is crafted from, which is only reliable for food at the moment, so is rather difficult to calculate, this table is auto-generated):
