Broken Leg is a status effect giving a negative buff that is gained through fall damage. It will decrease the player's speed by 40%, and leave them more susceptible to further fall damage which could possibly result in death. It has a duration of up to 2.5 real time hours, which is 72 hours of game time using the default settings. Multiple broken bones within the duration period and without a splint applied will reset the duration timer. From experience, the time seems to be modified by the players abilities and stats and how far they have fallen.

It is possible to partially heal a Broken Leg using a Splint. The player's splinted leg will reduce the player's speed penalty from 40% to 28%. However, this does not protect the player from further debuffs, as does using Antibiotics to cure Infection. If the player receives fall damage while a splint is applied, they may suffer a Sprained Leg, or, if the fall is of sufficient height, another Broken Leg.
