Description[ | ]

Bartering refers to the game mechanic related to buying and selling items and resources to Traders. This can be extremely helpful with investment into Better Barter (Perk) and give players access to a huge number of resources they can trade for. Just about anything from medicine, to ammo, weapons, traps, vehicle parts, and even completely assembled vehicles can be bought from Traders. Many of the best items are found in a Trader's Secret Stash which gets more items at levels 3 and 5 of Better Barter. Some items such as Solar Cells can only be acquired by bartering.

Players will buy and sell items and resources to the Trader based on the base price of the item, and the quality of the item if it has a quality level. The selling and buying price is improved by any buffs to the player such as the Better Barter perk. Certain items, such as the Cigar, will provide additional bonuses to the player's Bartering skill, thus making it possible to get better deals when trading.

All traders have the same prices, though each trader has an inventory unique to them.

Price Calculations[ | ]

Buying[ | ]

Price = (Modified Base Price) * (1 - (Buying Buffs))

Example: Solar Banks have a base price of 2000, and since they do not have a quality level this is increased to 300% of the base price.

With no buffs to Bartering the price would be:

  • Price = (2000 * 3) * (1 - 0)
  • Price = 6000

With Better Barter at level 5, 25% better buying prices, and no other buffs:

  • Price = (2000 * 3) * (1 - (0.25))
  • Price = (6000) * (0.75)
  • Price = 4500

If you have a Cigar (10% better prices) equipped, and have Better Barter at level 5 then:

  • Price = (2000 * 3) * (1 - (0.25 + 0.10))
  • Price = (6000) * (0.65)
  • Price = 3900

Selling[ | ]

Price = (Modified Base Price) * (1 + (Selling Buffs))

Example: Gold Nuggets have a base price of 700, and since they do not have a quality level this is reduced to 20%.

With no buffs to Bartering the price would be:

  • Price = (700 * 0.2) * (1 + 0)
  • Price = 140

With Better Barter at level 5, 25% better selling prices, and no other buffs:

  • Price = (700 * 0.2) * (1 + (0.25))
  • Price = (140) * (1.25)
  • Price = 175

If you have a Cigar (10% better prices) equipped, and have Better Barter at level 5 then:

  • Price = (700 * 0.2) * (1 + (0.25 + 0.10))
  • Price = (140) * (1.35)
  • Price = 189

Buying at Vending Machines[ | ]

Vending Machines can be found in the various Trader POI's as well as various other POI throughout the world. You can only buy items at Vending Machines; you cannot sell items.

All items at a Vending Machine will have a buy price of 100% of the base price of the item. Vending Machines are not affected by buffs to Bartering, the prices are constant.

Without any buffs to buying a Vending Machine will sell Food and Drinks at 1/3 of the cost of a Trader as the Trader marks these items up to 300% of base price. However with a buff to buying of 66.7% or higher a Trader's prices will be lower.
